“First of all, I can’t believe we are here; this moment should not have happened.”
These are the words that open Moments, the film of Evelyn and Mario’s intimate wedding in Ravello at Villa La Rondinaia.
It’s a sentence that feels almost contradictory on a wedding day, yet it captures everything that led to it. For weeks, nothing seemed certain. Visas delayed, luggage lost, guests redirected to another country, and at one point, a phone call to everyone announcing that the wedding might not happen at all.
And yet, here they were, in Ravello, on the Amalfi Coast, with everything finally falling into place.
Eve and Mario travelled from California to celebrate their intimate wedding on the Amalfi Coast, surrounded by a close group of friends and family.
The days leading up to the wedding had not been simple. Planning from abroad always carries uncertainty, but in their case, the journey had been marked by several challenges. By the time everyone gathered in Ravello, there was a shared sense of relief, and something even stronger, a feeling that the celebration meant more because of everything it had taken to reach it.
That energy stayed present throughout the entire wedding.
Ravello offers a different perspective on the Amalfi Coast.
Set higher above the sea, with pedestrian streets and a slower pace, it naturally lends itself to more intimate celebrations. The atmosphere feels more contained, allowing couples and guests to experience the wedding without distraction.
Villa La Rondinaia reflects that same character.
Built on the edge of a cliff and once home to writer Gore Vidal, the villa carries a strong artistic presence. Its terraces, gardens, and layered spaces create a setting where the day can unfold gradually, rather than being confined to a single moment or location.

While the celebration was centered in Ravello, the ceremony took place in the Duomo of Amalfi.
The contrast between the two locations added depth to the day. From the quiet, elevated atmosphere of Ravello to the historic intensity of Amalfi, the experience expanded without losing its intimacy.
Getting there, however, became part of the story.
The bus carrying the couple and their guests was caught in traffic along the narrow coastal road, remaining blocked for nearly 45 minutes. What could have easily turned into stress became something else entirely. Laughter, cheering, a shared understanding that this was simply part of the Amalfi Coast experience.
By the time they arrived, nothing felt rushed.
The climb up the cathedral’s staircase became a moment in itself, almost symbolic of the journey the couple had gone through before arriving there.
Inside, the ceremony felt grounded and emotional, shaped by the architecture, the light, and the presence of everyone who had travelled to be there.
Back at Villa La Rondinaia, the atmosphere shifted again.
As the sun began to set, guests gathered on the terrace overlooking the sea. Aperitivo was served, spritz in hand, accompanied by traditional Italian music, mandolin and guitar echoing softly across the balcony.
This moment, suspended between day and night, carried a sense of calm that contrasted with the unpredictability that had defined the journey until then.
The reception unfolded around a long single table, bringing all 40 guests together.
The entrance of the couple, accompanied live by Pretty Woman, set a lighter tone for the evening. Music continued throughout dinner with an acoustic band, moving naturally between presence and celebration.
As the night progressed, speeches brought everything back into perspective.
Mario spoke about miracles. About meeting Evelyn during the pandemic, at a time when the world had slowed down and connections felt uncertain. About losing his mother, and finding, within that, something unexpected.
The day, with all its complications and near impossibilities, began to make sense in a different way.
This intimate wedding in Ravello was never defined by perfection.
It was defined by everything that could have prevented it from happening, and didn’t.
As a filmmaker, my approach remains grounded in the story of the couple, allowing places like Ravello, Amalfi, and Villa La Rondinaia to exist as part of the narrative, without ever becoming the focus.
Because what remains is not only where it happened, but how it was lived.
