Luxury Wedding in Villa Astor – Destination Wedding in Amalfi Coast

Sorrento in the Amalfi Coast is one of those places called heaven on earth and rightly so. The landscape offers a spectacular alternation between green mountains, elegant architecture and iconic coastlines. The delicious italian food is as good as it can get here and the locals offer great hospitality. The views to the Tyrrhenian sea and the gulf of Naples are simply breathtaking. And who could forget the dance scene to the rhythm of Mambo Italiano, starring Vittorio De Sica and Sophia Lauren (honorary citizen of Sorrento today), in the movie “Scandal in Sorrento”? Having a strong connection with Italy myself, these are only few of the reasons that make me smile each time that I travel to document a love story in the Amalfi Coast. And I believe that the words elegance, fashion and love, which are all reminiscent of the Amalfi Coast, are also the ones that would best characterize this Luxury Wedding in Villa Astor, where I had the opportunity to be Elizabeth and Huw’s wedding videographer.

Elizabeth & Huw have travelled from New York to the Amalfi Coast to celebrate their special day in Villa Astor, surrounded by a relatively small group of friends and family. And it was simply a crazy, unique adventure that had it all… Three days of visiting some of the best Villas, beaches and restaurants in the Amalfi Coast. Full of music, dancing, cocktails, laughter, tears of joy, warm sun but also wind, thunder and rain. But, first and foremost, these were three days full of love! It was such an unforgettable experience to meet the couple and their crew and to capture the celebration of their love in such stunning backdrops. First in the picturesque and luxurious Villa Astor, where they had their wedding Ceremony, but also in all the other iconic venues, namely in Conca del Sogno Massa Lubrense and Arienzo Beach Club in Positano, where the pre- and after- wedding parties were held.

Luxury Wedding in Villa Astor Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is definitely one of the most spectacular and unique regions of Italy. It has a charm and romanticism directly drawn from the vintage Italian cinema. A place that many couples, from all around the world, choose to tie the knot.

There is a great choice for hosting special occasion events, ranging from intimate elopements to bigger weddings, all around the Amalfi Coast, always with an emphasis on elegance, yet surrounded by the beauty of nature and a vintage Italian charm. I recently did a roundup of some of the best luxury venues to get married in the Amalfi Coast but Villa Astor in Sorrento is definitely among my top choices, due to its’ rich historical heritage, alongside a distinctive, elegant and refined atmosphere.

Tying the Knot in Amalfi Coast: Villa Astor Luxury Wedding Venue

Elizabeth and Huw chose Villa Astor as their wedding venue. A luxury private residence perched on the cliffs of the Peninsula of Sorrento. The Villa hosts one of the finest botanical collections in its’ lavish gardens, considered to be among the most beautiful in Europe. It offers a secluded corner of elegance right in the heart of Sorrento. But, at the same time, it is also a veritable living museum, surrounded by the ruins of an ancient roman imperial villa dating from the 1st century A.D., and featuring several Greek and Roman statues.

Villa Astor was acquired by William Astor, US Ambassador in Italy in the beginning of the 20th century and has been consequently rennovated by the famous decorator Jacques Garcia. Perched on the cliffs of Sorrento it offers a unique panoramic view of the sea and the Mount Vesuvius, which can be enjoyed from the large windows indoors or from the spacious terrace. It offers six lavish suites combining elegance, comfort and luxury.

Having already filmed other weddings in Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast previously, the locations were very familiar to me. However, this was my first trip to film a luxury destination wedding in Villa Astor Sorrento. Always a great pleasure to work with such a lovely couple in a breathtaking location. You can focus on the story, as the surroundings are already beautiful. A three day adventure

This wedding adventure was split between three days, with different events taking place all along the Amalfi Coast. From the welcome dinner and party in the breathtaking Conca del Sogno at Massa Lubrense, to the after wedding brunch on the exclusive beach of Arienzo beach Club in Positano, everything was so nice!

Prewedding Dinner in Conca del Sogno Massa Lubrense

Conca del Sogno is a restaurant and venue situated in one of the most seducing bays of the Amalfi coast that has become a gastronomic point of reference in the region. Surrounded by emerald water, white pebbles, green-tinted rocks, and breathtaking sunsets it is definitely a highlight.

This is were Elizabeth and Huw held their pre-wedding dinner. Everyone had a great time and was welcomed with an exclusive menu, tasty cocktails, and lovely party music. One of the highlights of the evening was the celebration of the anniversary of Elizabeth’s parents wedding.

The crazy warm up party was interrupted by an intense thunderstorm and rain. But the party still went on, as everyone received a white umbrella.

For the prewedding, Elizabeth wore an iconic green Gucci dress and shoes from Aquazzura. The elegant, yet fashion forward, dress suited her amazingly and made the highlight of all the instagram stories of the evening!

Wedding in Villa Astor Sorrento

The wedding day started in the early afternoon with the groom party having lunch in Sorrento, while the bride party were already getting ready in Villa Astor. Meanwhile, the preparations of the ceremony, dinner, cocktail and party setups in different parts of the Villa went on. The idea was that the guests would enjoy a tour of the Villa, while participating at all the festivities.

The first look with Huw in the iconic hall of Villa Astor was quite emotional with the whole family group witnessing the moment. Elizabeth looked stunning in her unique Vera Wang dress and Sophia Webster shoes.

The wedding ceremony was set up to be held in the garden of Villa Astor, along the straight path entering the Villa. Guests were seated along both sides of this long corridor, while the family were seated behind the ceremony arch, so that everyone could witness and enjoy the moment. the whole setup was impressive and the aisle was reminiscent of a fashion catwalk. This could possibly be considered as a reference to Elizabeth’s professional background, which is related to fashion.

The whole ceremony where the bride and groom exchanged their vows was elegant and emotional for everyone. One of the highlights of the ceremony was the reading of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116, about the nature of true love. Everyone felt a connection with the moment and the couple’s story. I always enjoy when poetry readings are included in the wedding ceremony and often pick such readings to be part of the narrative in the wedding film.

After the wedding ceremony there was an outdoors cocktail in the balcony above the water, followed by dinner with a beautiful long table setup in the garden overlooking Sorrento’s Marina Grande. The night ended excitedly with a crazy outdoors dance party. Later on in the night the party moved in the interior of Villa Astor, where everyone had the opportunity to enjoy a warm piece of succulent italian pizza.

The whole event from start to finish was elegant, beautifully conceived and realized and also very emotional. I feel honoured to have witnessed it, and to have been chosen as their luxury wedding videographer in Villa Astor.

After Wedding Party in Arienzo Beach Club Positano

The day after the wedding everyone gathered in the Marina Grande of Sorrento to hop on the boats for a trip to Positano. Notwithstanding the wind and waves, the party went on in the boats. After a short stop to admire the picturesque town of Positano perched over the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, the events went on with a refined buffet of seafood in the exclusive environment of Arienzo Beach Club.

A chilled out day, yet with more dance, swimming and fun, where everyone discussed about the night of the wedding. Elizabeth again stood out in her cosy Chanel dress and shoes. The party went on till late afternoon, where everyone felt tired after the boat trip back to Sorrento, yet filled with unique memories.

We also had a perfect collaboration with Shawn, Elizabeth and Huw’s wedding photographer, and his team. His quest for refined vintage looks, shooting a lot of film, and even with anamorphic lenses, match my own personal aesthetics. But he is also a great person and I believe that we had a good connection on a personal level too.
